Cooking Tips
Guide to Cooking Precooked & Fresh Sausages:
When purchasing sausages our customers frequently ask, “What is the best way to cook
this?” Depending on the type of Sausage, cooking instructions can vary
regionally and culturally. This is to
help clarify some of the do’s and don’ts when preparing our precooked
sausages. For example, this would be
Frankfurters, Weisswurst and Bauernwurst Knockwurst just to name a few. When cooking, remember we don’t have the
salt, preservatives, fillers or fat compared to similar products.
Simmering:
1. Bring water to a boil
2. Turn heat off and drop sausages in the water
3. Remove from direct heat, cover and let sit for 7-10 min
4. Pull out of the water and pat dry, serve immediately
Pan Frying:
1. Heat pan or skillet over medium heat adding a little fat or oil
2. Once pan is warm add the sausage to the pan and cook on both sides until golden brown about 8-10 minutes total, turn frequently so as to not burn the sausage.
3. Cover with a lid to help heat evenly. Remember it is just reheating, once they are brown they should be hot and ready.
Grilling:
1. Preheat grill to medium heat
2. Add sausages to the grill
3. Keep and eye on sausage, make sure not to burn the casing. Rotate every couple of minutes until thoroughly heated. Cooking time takes 10-15 minutes depending on size of sausage.
4. Serve immediately
Fresh Sausage:
For Fresh Sausage you can use the Pan Frying or Grilling Method, but you need
to cook it longer than our pre-cooked sausage. Suggested internal temperature
should be 160 F.
